RoRo ships
KIFONS has to be shipped on a Roll-on/Roll-off cargo ship, also called a RoRo, because it's too big to fit in a standard shipping container (max height x width x length).

A RoRo is a cargo ship that loads vehicles by driving them up an access ramp.
Globalization being what it is, vehicles built abroad that need to travel by sea use these ships.

Since KIFONS has quite a long rear overhang, its suspension was raised and its chassis modified to help it get up the ramp. The back of the RV was raised by about a foot.

Prices for a transatlantic crossing

We contacted 2 different shipping companies (Seabridge and WALLENIUS) and asked them for quotes. The budget is... hefty!
Seabridge's big advantage is that they offer to ship our RV with our personal belongings inside, all the way to Halifax (Canada) or Baltimore (USA).

The calculation is very simple:
Price = (Volume x Rate) + Fuel surcharge + loading fees + unloading fees.
with Volume = length (m) x width (m) x height (m) = volume (m³) of the RV

Example for a LAIKA KREOS 3002 (7.1 m x 2.3 m x 3.1 m), or for a DETHLEFFS A8000 (8.5 m x 2.35 m x 3.45 m):
